STRATEGIES TO DEVELOP PERCEPTION AND NUMERICAL CALCULUS
Students from 10 to 18 years of age
MATHEMATICAL KNOWLEDGE is an engaging proposal that aims to provide students with a series of carefully designed mathematics-based activities which stimulate thinking processes in students. Students are able to articulate their methods in sequential and associated cognition, and through practice to develop further skills in thinking. Such practice provides the necessary tools for students as they face future key examinations (such as the prueba saber among others), as well as everyday situations.
• 8 thought training workshops.
• 16 activities carried out on a 100- point grid.
• 4 challenges.
• 2 progress tests.
• Summary of theory and content for each grade (5 pages).
Strengthen the development of skills in logic and mathematical thinking in the student. This contributes to the building and understanding of mathematical concepts and structures studied throughout the different grades in secondary education. Furthermore, the dynamic activities, modules and reviews included in the series allow students to have a more positive approach towards mathematics in general.
•To integrate the cognitive functions of the brain in motivation, in promoting positive habits and in thinking. The series also integrates the two cognitive methods of verbal and visual thought by implementing new strategies that facilitate the improvement of knowledge in mathematics.
•To stimulate the development in logical and mathematical thinking in all different fields of mathematics (numerical, variational, geometrical-metrical and random) using strategies that strengthen competencies.
THOUGHT TRAINING WORKSHOPS
To give the students the basic tools in clarifying concepts and procedures in mathematics that are necessary in activites described below. Also to approach particular activities on key topics for each grade. All activities have a focus on variational, geometrical and random concepts, providing constant reinforcement of key mathematical concepts and structures and preparing them for the pruebas saber.
ACTIVITIES FOR DEVELOPMENT
Diverse activities that focus on topics related to each particular grade (except 11th grade where the focus is on review). The activities are characterized by the construction of a specific diagram, which is obtained by solving each of the problems proposed.
Particular activities aim to develop strategies in mental calculus, algebraic preparation, and trigonometric preparation among others.
ACTIVITIES WITH CHALLENGES
To put to the test students’ abilities, skills and knowledge in interesting contexts, both within and outside the bounds of mathematics and logic.
PRUEBAS SABER
Activities designed to evaluate knowledge acquired during semester of the particular grade. 12 questions are provided that are structured according to the guidelines employed by ICFEs (Componentes y Competencias en Matemáticas).
Taking advantage of MATHEMATICAL KNOWLEDGE in the classroom encourages the student to develop a continual motivation towards the studies and learning. A positive disposition of the student is nurtured due to the fun and engaging activities presented in the practice of mathematics.
SKILLS IN THINKING
To abstract, generate and justify conjectures and to formulate counter examples.
To visualize, create, invent, imagine and be intuitive.
SKILLS IN COMMUNICATION
Listen, find, read and interpret.
Denominate, define and communicate information.
SKILLS IN ACTITUDE
Motivation, assuredness, confidence and skills in successful resolution of problems.

With the idea of optimize the use of the material and the internalization of the training, Didáctica y Matemáticas offer for each grade a TEACHER’S RESOURCE as supporting material.
This consists of a MATHEMATICAL KNOWLEDGE module written in Spanish, in which the teacher will be able to find all the activities with the respective answers, as well as a color image of the corresponding activity on the number grid.
The resource is constituted as an important tool for the teacher as it allows him or her to compare answers and graphics both quickly and confidently.
The resource is also provided WITHOUT ADDITIONAL COST to the teachers who are using the MATHEMATICAL KNOWLEDGE series as supplementary material which enables to strengthen students’ skills in numerical mental calculus during the school year.
